25 Style and Fashion Tips from an Experienced Personal Stylist

Hello lovelies and welcome or welcome back to my blog!

I know it has been a little bit since my last post--I have been very busy lately, and I will have to catch you all up at some point, but for now, let's just get into today's post.

In this post, I'm sharing 25 of my best style tips with you all. I have years of experience as a personal stylist from styling friends and family as well as working remotely for over a year as a personal stylist for an app and working as a stylist for flight attendants!

I hope you enjoy these tips that I have for you, and if you want to see more content like this, let me know!

1) Learn and know your size(s).

It's so important to know what size(s) you wear in various brands so that you're able to find the perfect fit.

2) Measure yourself.

Measure your entire body so that you can follow sizing charts. This is very helpful when ordering online to make sure you get the perfect fit.

3) Accept your sizes.

It's one thing to know your sizes, but have you accepted them? At the end of the day, those numbers don't define you, but it's important to accept and acknowledge them so that you're purchasing and wearing things that truly fit you.

4) Shop second hand.

Shopping second hand is a great way to save money and make a positive impact on the environment. Some of my favorite pieces are from Goodwill and Poshmark, and by buying second hand, you're not contributing to the production of new products.

5) Donate what you're no longer using and what doesn't fit.

This tip ties into the previous tip. By donating what you're no longer using, you're not just dumping it into the trash but giving it a chance at a second life! This is an excellent way to recycle.

6) Create Pinterest boards.

Pinterest is one of my favorite sources for inspiration as you can search for exactly what you want and compile it all to access later. You can create different boards for different events, seasons, and more.

7) Discover your style icons.

Finding style inspiration is a great way to pinpoint things and learn what you like and don't like. It's also a great way to see what works on different body types as well as body types that match yours.

8) Stop worrying about trends.

Trends don't matter! Wear what you want to wear and what you like. What's trending now won't be trending forever as it will be replaced by something else, but as soon as you get rid of it, it will be trending again, so just wear what you want. Personal style is revered far more than outfits that are purely trend-based.

9) Shop on sale.

Save your money! You don't have to buy things at full price. Waiting for sales or using coupons is a great way to be kind to your wallet while you shop.

10) DIY accessories and hard to find pieces.

Sometimes accessories you see online or on other people are hard to find or they're expensive. Go to a craft store and create your own replica at home for a much more affordable price with a personal touch.

11) Save up for what you truly want.

If you want something that's a little pricier, set a goal, start putting a little money aside, and save up for it. It's a fun way to treat yourself and have something to look forward to, and when you get it, you can be proud that you worked hard for it.

12) But buy what you really need as well.

If you need certain items, then they're priority over the luxuries you may want and come first. Make sure your important needs and things are met before splurging on things that aren't necessarily necessities.

13) Designer items aren't everything.

Designer items are not everything. As someone who has had both designer items and non-designer items, there's not a real difference in the experience, and there's not much of a status benefit as when I wear my designer pieces most people don't know they're designer or don't care! That's why it's so important to only invest in items that you truly want as impressing others doesn't matter.

14) Cheap doesn't always = the best value.

I love a good deal, but cheaper items are not always the best. They're not always the worst, but they're not always the best. Be wary of what you're putting your money into, and investigate an item before you buy it and return it if necessary and if there's a return policy available.

15) Read fashion books.

Fashion books are a great way to get tips and facts that you may not find online. Plus it's nice to have physical copies of things in my opinion. They're also great for decor.

16) Watch runway shows.

Runway shows are a great way to immerse yourself in fashion and get a crash course on different styles, prints, and more.

17) Follow your favorite brands.

Following your favorite brands is a great way to stay on top of new arrivals and get style inspiration for your favorite pieces.

18) Invest in quality undergarments.

When I say quality, I don't necessarily mean expensive, but quality. Buy underwear you know is going to last and hold up. It can make your outfits more polished and help them fit better, and it can help with your confidence as well.

I don't care what anyone says, you can wear leggings as pants! Now, there are different types of leggings with different fits and durabilities, and there are some that are more suited for tunics or dresses, but there are certain styles that are very functional as pants.

Whether you have many formal occasions or just a few, classic formalwear is so valuable as you can wear the same looks over and over with no one noticing. With the right pieces, you can wear the same things to first dates, weddings, graduations, etc..

20) Yes, you can wear leggings as pants.

I don't care what anyone says, you can wear leggings as pants! Now, there are different types of leggings with different fits and durabilities, and there are some that are more suited for tunics or dresses, but there are certain styles that are very functionable as pants.

21) Find your own voice/style.

Really get to know your style and what you like, and don't be afraid to embrace it. It's about what makes you comfortable and happy and not what others find as acceptable or palatable. That being said, it's important to be respectful of dress codes as there are certain wardrobe restrictions at certain places, but I'm talking about in your everyday, personal, free-time/life.

22) You can wear the same things every day.

You can wear the same thing every day! Who cares?! If people don't like it, they don't have to look. Wearing the same thing every day is a great way to save money, and if you have something you feel comfortable and confident in, that's important.

23) Sell clothes you're not wearing anymore.

This ties into donating clothes. There are various places where you can sell clothing you're no longer using, and it's a great way to recycle and earn some extra cash!

24) Pointed pumps are the classiest.

This is a personal opinion/preference, but I just think pointed pumps are the classiest shoes and are so beautiful. They're great for various occasions.

25) If you're going to an outside event, wear chunky heels.

If you're going to an outside event whether it be to a wedding, graduation, etc., chunky heels are your friend as they'll keep your heels from sinking in the grass! If you've ever had your heels sink in the grass, you know how it's not fun. Chunky heels will make things much more enjoyable.
